Observation details
Super mega rarity, first year male Orchard Oriole heard and then seen in large russian olive tree. The song immediately caught my ear because I did not recognize it. I then spotted a small yellowish Oriole with a noticeable black bib. My first thought was Scott’s Oriole, but the black did not extended onto the head. I then was thinking young male Hooded Oriole, but the bill seemed too short and straight. After reviewing the song of Orchard Oriole I knew what I had. The song sounded more finch like to my ears than other Oriole species. Photo and audio documentation. Looks like a first county eBird record.
