Observation details
The male and female pair were hunting in the field behind the house this morning. The female caught two prey items, the first being a small rodent which she consumed. The second was a much larger rodent which was scoped and photographed. After pulling off some tough fur, she got a good purchase on its neck with her beak and flew off to the east with it, the direction she and the male always fly with the prey items. We think they have a nest and are feeding young somewhere in the Dixon subdivision. They have been doing this for several years in a row but we’ve never been able to locate the nest. Several blurry pictures.
