Observation details
Saw it reported on eBird by Alexander G so went to go check it out with Tanya and was in same spot at end of environmental center parking lot by the meadow. It was drumming often and kept chasing Red-bellied Woodpeckers that were nesting nearby every time they came in with food it would chase them. Called couple times as we were getting ready to leave. It looked like maybe a first year as the back has slight scalloping showing and head was bright red but had some darker patches like it was just fully coming in. Looked like the bird was possibly setting up a territory and trying to attract a mate. Also at one point a Baltimore Oriole came flying to some Tulip Tree flowers to drink nectar and next thing the woodpecker was doing the same thing. Went to couple different flowers on the Tulip Tree. Pics/video/audio to upload. Seen with Tanya and Marty.
