In this view the bird is showing the white tail with dark outer webs (unlike the gray tail with white outer webs of a Forster's Tern) .
Observation details
This adult bird was the only small Sterna tern standing on the beach with Caspian Terns. It was gray (rather than white like on Forster's Tern) below, its black-tipped bill was more red than orange, and it had a white tail with dark outer web of the outer rectices (rather than a gray tail with white outer webs of the outer rectrices like on Forster's Tern).
