Media notes
I list it here as an adult male based on the judgment of the researchers who captured and color-banded this individual.
Observation details
While I conversed with the Piping Plover monitor, we saw Green Dot (the color-banded male from Wisconsin) that was foraging about 150 feet W of her "fishhook" pier observation point and [presumably] Imani (the male born in 2021 to local "celebrity" parents Monty & Rose) who was feeding near the far NW extent of the fenced beach area that comprises the sanctuary's Montrose Beach Dunes Natural Area (MBDNA) . The monitor told me that a third male (not color-banded) was seen in the fenced exclosure today and that there was some agonistic "parallel run" behavior observed between one of the males which has been on territory for a while and the "newcomer". When one of the males performed an aerial display flight over the NE quadrant of the MBDNA, it gave repeated calls that Sibley describes as "alarm peeps" at the rate of about 2.85 call notes/second.
