Observation details
Parents feeding two begging fledglings in valley oak branches outside my window! I think there were three fledglings, but I couldn't tell for sure. The fledglings had mostly yellow-looking bills, and maybe a more contrasting head pattern compared to the adult, with a paler grayish-brown crown and a darker brownish lower edge of the brown cap. I watched the adults creep through the branches of the oak and neighboring trees, including the Canary Island pine across the courtyard, finding insects and bringing them back to the fledglings. Both the parents and the fledglings seemed to be calling regularly, with the fledgling begging calls sounding pretty similar to the adult calls but a little wheezier. Unfortunately I failed to get any photos of the fledglings; these photos show an adult.
