Observation details
Very confusing diving duck. I first noticed a bright yellow bill with a dark tip. Most likely match for that would be male Black Scoter. The head shape just didn't look right to me for that though. I took photos but it had moved further away by the time i set up and even with 700mm it was nothing but a speck. Enlarging the photo reveals little usable detail, to me. At some angles it looked like maybe there was some white at the base of the bill and a few times I thought I could see pale streaks on the side of head or neck. Overall the bird appeared black when swimming and diving.
