Observation details
From notes. Female. Blue/grey lores. Rusty ear coverts. Mid-brown crown. Buffish/brown supercillium. Creamy/white throat. Light brown nape with buff neck sides. Mantle was dark brown with white flecks (decreasing in number towards upper tail coverts and rump), which were a shade lighter than the mantle. Scapulars light/buff brown forming a distinct brace. Dark brown centers to median coverts with mid-brown edgings giving a necklace effect. Greater coverts similar to medians. Striking tertials with dark brown centers and creamy edges (especially on 3rd inner edge). Top two tertials had mid-brown edges. Scondaries and primaries were earthy brown with paler tips. Breast was buff/light brown with subtle blue/grey tones. Belly and flanks as breast but lacking blue/grey tones. Vent was greyish/buff with faint white barring. Amazing under tail coverts. Dark blue/grey with white spots/barring. Olivey green bill, which quite short with red base. Olively green legs. Legs were long in proportion to body size (about that of Jack Snipe) as were the spidery feet. Extremely tame. No more than a few feet away. It actually stood on someones foot. Seem to be feeding on small invertibrae (pecked at a dog end [cigarette butt] by mistake once. Moved up ad down ditch in a typical crake like manner with tail cocking almost constantly. When tail half cocked, primary tips just about reached end of tail. Returned on 10th also. Photo.
