Observation details
Male with orangish hackles, rufous on wings, some white (not very visible) on rump, two long black arching tail feathers, gray legs (unlike domestic chicken roosters in the settlement with yellow legs), white ear patches (wattles). Reference guides report that Red Junglefowl molt into less colorful eclipse plumage in June after breeding season and this individual is in the process of doing that and has shed some of its hackle feathers. Present with this male at the same location was a hen with chicks. The hen appears to be a Red Junglefowl/domestic chicken hybrid as it is an overall darker plumage that would be expected for Junglefowl but it retains some of the Junglefowl traits like gray, rather than yellow, legs and pinkish, rather than red, comb/wattles. There are eBird reports of Red Junglefowl at this location and more at various locations around the Bahamas.
