Observation details

My husband and I were in a double kayak at Eagle Creek. I was in front with camera. My husband was spotting in back and first noticed color red in the foliage. We were gliding against the bank. I zoomed in and caught the red color in my lens. I had NO idea what bird I was tracking. It stayed in the green stems and leaves for several minutes before finally stepping out into a clearing where I was able to get a couple of clear shots of it. It appeared to be looking for food / pecking for food on the ground. It quickly disappeared back into the leaves. I tried to identify it with Merlin using my phone app off my camera screen, but it did not work. I later identified it using the Merlin app from my computer screen and confirmed with various birding photographers on FB.
