Observation details
Observed along a wet portion of the wash, drinking water as it emerged from a patch of Golden Columbine in bloom. Also heard vocalizing. A smallish sparrow with buff coloration in the malar region, and across the breast, and into the flanks. The breast and flanks neatly stippled with clean black streaks. Throat whitish. Supercilium of a cool gray, contrasting with the buff malar, and brownish auriculars. The back of the bird was also of a cool gray, and neatly stippled with clean black streaks. The sparrow vocalized a loud chip with a clean, smack-like quality, soft to commence and sharp to finish, repeated a few times.
