Observation details
Rare, originally seen flying over the road and into the marsh as I drove by, a bit of a bewildering sight. It alighted briefly on some taller Spartina at around (40.110762,-75.072333), at which I got a great but short look at it. A gorgeous kingbird with ridiculous long black and white tail (likely indicating male), uniform pale gray head, black wings, with red patch at the shoulder. After quickly confirming what it was, I pulled the car to the side and got out, but unfortunately the STFL was swiftly harassed by some Red-winged Blackbirds in the marsh, and before I could get my scope set up and on the bird it was flying further and further out into the marsh being chased by the blackbirds, and I eventually lost it behind a patch of Phrag. I scanned for ~10 minutes without any luck but eventually refound the bird perched on a snag way out in the marsh, much closer to Reeds Beach Rd somewhere around ~(39.111750, -74.886000). I was able to get one garbage live photo at this distance before the bird flew down off the snag into the marsh, and after this I could not refind it. I checked from Reeds Beach Rd afterwards but could not relocate it from there, but the area it last seen in is difficult to see from Reeds Beach Rd and the bird was clearly flighty and moving around a lot; very bad video documentation (from a live photo) but thankfully this species is so distinctive that it might be diagnostic.
