FIrst-cycle alternate plumage. Eccentric molt limit within the primaries and secondaries (see: Pyle and Carnes 2022). ID from multiple in-hand measurements, as well as molt pattern. This bird captured and banded as part of the federally- and state-permitted banding program at this location.
Observation details
ID from in-hand measurements (longest primary - primary 6: 3.0 mm, p9 - p5: 6.0 mm, wing - tail: 12 mm, p6 - p10: 6.0 mm, bill from nares to tip: 8.5 mm, Formula R: 1.45). All measurements either on the small end of the overlap zone with Alder, or well shorter than Alder. Bird seems to be from the western subspecies, either adastus or brewsteri. Additionally, overall brownish to brownish-olive coloration on the back and a more crested appearance. First-cycle alternate plumage.
