Observation details
Observed from 9:10 AM to deluge-induced departure at 10:10 AM. Also present at various times: Sara Zagorski (on my arrival), Frank Mantlik, Franklin Nejame, Molly Zahn, Adam Fasciolo, Paul Fusco, Peter Grund. The Prothonotary Warbler was feeding actively in Black Willows (peninsula side of the iron bridge, then directly across the river to Black Willows overhanging both river and swamp sides of the main trail (near the small, wooden bridge), repeatedly finding small, green caterpillars. Much preening by the bird following the start of the rain. Regular singing by the warbler, and also some chip calls. Foraging ranged from river bank level to 20-25 feet up into canopy, but much of the time the warbler was observed at or near eye level. Two audio recordings, and photos.
