Observation details
First of the year for me. First heard while coming down to the Butterfly Meadow from the top of Lookout, then it sang (and called) several times while moving between the SW end of the Butterfly Meadow and the N end, then crossed the path toward the Quaker Cemetery and sang again before we finally lost it. An extraordinarily vocal bird, who sang for about five minutes straight while moving around, but of course we never saw it once. Admittedly Josh M and I were more focused on getting good recordings—especially to send to Jay Pitochelli, which everyone should do for his research (it’s also fun because he tells you where the bird is from based on the song!)—then on seeing the bird. Apparently Linda also heard it right after we left, but by the time we returned a couple of hours later, no one was seeing it or hearing it.
