Observation details
In Del Rey Lagoon with Willets, Whimbrels and Marbled Godwits. The bird appears to be largely in basic plumage -- lacks rusty plumage, but perhaps has some darker molted feathers? Marks on the flanks in the last photo look like bars more than spots and the breast looks grayish rather than with spots, so looks to me more like LB, but no vocalization and Alvaro Jaramillo's Dowitcher ID course states that overwintering birds molting from one basic plumage to another tend to be SB, at least in a wintering area, so not likely LB's in late May in CA in this plumage.
