Observation details
Update: Confirmed by eBird reviewers to be a PLVI. First alerted by song, slightly raspier upslur as opposed to PLVI that I had heard a few days ago in the yard. Photos show a yellow wash although this bird appears drabber than individuals I've seen in the past. Merlin was continually hitting on Cassin's Vireo and never once suggested PLVI. In Routt County last weekend, I was in a spot with many PLVI and Merlin never picked up a CAVI, so while Vireo's have been notoriously tough for Merlin, it appears to be in a better spot this year. As always, as the reviewers do their thing, happy to stand corrected if need be. These are species that I've confused before especially when not in good light and height.
