Observation details
Earlier in the day, the Brants had been on the water in several groups. It was distant scope views, but at times the white neck band was discernible, and the small black triangular head and short black bill, and the contrasting white showing on the sides of the rump/tail. Then at about 12:15, a large number of them took to the air in a massive flock, arced around some then off to the north. See attached photo (which I am basing my count on), which shows them flying over the north lake shore near some of the buildings of Seneca Lake State Park.
