Media notes
Recorded while watching bird sing. This bird was not in full breeding plumage and had an overall more rusty appearance with blue patches.
Observation details
Surprise bird. Heard and then visual confirmation. Recording. Merlin picked it up the last 2 days ( I did not hear it myself yesterday) but today I heard singing from edge of meadow close to Hankes road entry to loop, between Gilman trail and screenings path. Sounds like it sometimes moves to wooded edge of retention ponds. Not in full breeding plumage so rather rusty with blue patches, enormous bill. Seen singing from small ash along screenings. Earlier Merlin picked it up across the meadow almost diagonally so perhaps singing from shrubby/successional edges all around. Or Merlin picked it up from afar. Returned later with camera but could not relocate bird, however very hot and quite windy by then. Birds sings at beginning and just after 15 seconds after annoying wind noise.
