Observation details
Copulating; heard a couple of descending whinny calls; later recorded a bird calling prior to spotting one bird walking on the shore (across the water, left side); eventually saw two birds together; there was a bit of mutual preening, followed by a brief copulation, and then head-bowing of the male as he ran away. Photos, but not of the display or copulation. Birds of the World notes that preening and attempted mating always precede incubation. Egg-laying (8-11 eggs) and incubation (close to 3 weeks) would suggest to look for chicks at the end of June.
