Observation details
While looking out for Black Swifts this afternoon I noticed some high flying immature California Gulls headed to the coast flying roughly east to west. I watched these gulls as they were stringing out east of my yard, at very high elevation just below the big marine layer clouds, when a smaller sized fully dark hooded gull with precise black wing tips appeared trailing them! I quickly jumped and ran indoors for my camera and by the time I got back outside it had come overhead and was fully backlit by the sun’s orb. Not great for photos. Followed it off westward with some further distant photos of it in the California Gull flock. Completely white underneath. I believe maybe in one photo even the white eye arcs can be perhaps seen. A first for my yard!
