Observation details
***Very rare. Amazing find by Sean Medina, who picked it out of a big flock of common terns and heroically sent an immediate alert through Discord. Present in the vicinity the eastern flats for the better part of an hour and a half or so, getting up with the flock for a bit but always returning to the flats. Demonstrated its cool dip-feeding method at least once. The flock was eventually flushed by a dog, and while the group followed it for several minutes, the flock was further scrambled by a flyover peregrine falcon, seemingly dashing hopes of the bird returning to the beach. Was lost for good by the last remaining sets of eyes as it joined a frenzied, boiling flock of common terns fishing just offshore. Photos
