Observation details
Two birds together on the Halekou Pond. Lots of Laughing Gulls have been present in the islands lately, and I'm sure these two have been continuing here for a bit. Neither bird was in complete breeding plumage, unfortunately, but both looked to have been adults, or at least individuals approaching adulthood. Their upperparts were completely dark gray with no noticeable markings or patterns, and their underparts were white, lacking any apparent gray or brown tones. There was extensive black smudging on the rear portion of their otherwise white heads, and white crescents were present above and below each eye. The wingtips were completely black, and their tails looked to be entirely white. Bills long, slender, and only subtly drooped. The reddish hue to their legs and bills makes me think they'll be entering breeding plumage soon. One bird was clearly smaller than the other, maybe four-fifths its size, and it had a noticeably darker mantle.
