Observation details
Small thin empid, with short primary projection (at most third of tertails, clearly less than half). In field appeared with pale throat and underparts compared to back, and wing appeared contrasting, giving impression of Least. Tail thin. flanks with clear yellow wash. Clear eye ring, big enough to be slightly "messy". Lores pale, forming spectacled look. Lower mandible orange based, merging halfway into darker tip. When perched alongside a pewee, was clearly smaller. But I assume a Dusky would also appear small in comparison. wingbars white, but on the thinner side. Contrasting with black greater covets/wing. Folded primaries and especially primary tips appeared bleached (unmoulted?) lighter brown. However, Crown appeared flat, like Dusky. Not small and rounded. Also, in bad photos obtained, I could not see a strong contrast between secondary wing panel and primaries. Primaries are not edged white, but seem duller brown. Perched in lower to mid levels of shrub. Perhaps 3 - 6 feet off ground. Silent.
