Observation details
Two were in the area near the main beach where Piping Plovers have nested before. No exclosure yet. Both are banded. Male has made several scrapes and seemed to favour one or two of the scrapes. It was calling softly from a scrape as if to attract the female. Several photos show them interacting with each other at a scrape. Videos of male on beach captured vocalizations. Many thanks today to Julie Prentice for great information. She is monitoring the Piping Plovers for Birds Canada and Ontario Parks. Bands from left to right. Male is metal band, Orange/BOrange Flag, Orange over light blue. Female is metal band,-: orange (green dot), yellow (471), hatched last summer at Presqu’ile. This young female was also at Fish Point on Pelee Island until at least 7 May 2024. (Jeremy Hatt posted its history on point-pelee-essex Discord on 7 May with info from Sydney Shepherd of Birds Canada).
