Observation details
Amazing find by resident vireomancer, Sharon Jue. First eBird county record. Gray head and back, white throat and undersides, pink bill. Dark eye stripe and thin white eye arcs that just about turn into spectacles—these patterns separate it from both warbling and grey vireos. Two wingbars--a thin but distinct lower one, and a faint upper one. Scratchy, scribbly song (that, interestingly, Merlin steadfastly refused to recognize). Singing enthusiastically with few breaks; perched visibly from time to time. (37.4951021, -121.9821869). Better photos to come later; uploaded one for ID for now. Lifer! (Corrected to note that Sharon’s is the first county record in eBird but likely not historically, as this species’ range used to include the Bay Area; thanks Alex)
