Observation details
Catharus thrush foraging around Azalea Pond, seen at edge of water, in shrubs, and also flying to rocky outcroppings across pathway around Azalea Pond. Plain, brown thrush, with brown face, light colored, brown flecked chest, and no eyering. Short winged, and reddish tail as described in Sibley. Recording of calls, and photos showing wing shape, primary projection, and reddish tail (photo will be added shortly). Ruled out Swainson's Thrush by lack of eyering. Ruled out Hermit Thrush by lack of tail bobbing and less contrast between back and tail color. Ruled out Gray-cheeked Thrush by plainer face and shorter primary projection. Ruled out these Catharus thrush species (Swainson's, Hermit, Gray-cheeked) by call with recording added on this eBird list (did not hear song, only call).
