Observation details
One immature with brown head, two apparent older immatures (but not adults, I think) with paler heads. All three resting together on the island for most of the time, but at one point, one of the two older birds flew out from the island and foraged along the north shore of the lake, close to the trail, before returning to the island. I got great views of this bird as it made a plunge dive, righted itself in the water, kept its bill underwater as it slowly pushed the water out of its bill pouch, finally brought its bill back out of the water, gulped down the fish inside, flexed its bill up in the air and shook its pouch around, and took off to repeat the process. I saw it make at least two successful dives in this manner.
