Observation details
Known location. I heard the squeaky toy calls by their marked trees .75 miles past the trailhead. I also got visuals and photos. I had reported two birds in the field, but after I got home and confirmed the bird that Merlin kept insisting was a Hairy Woodpecker was in fact a juvenile RCWO, probably recently fledged due to the date, I changed the count to three. This bird was also in one of the marked Pine trees .75 miles past the trailhead. I was very frustrated in the field, as I was unable to locate that bird in the pine, but now that I’m thinking about it, perhaps the youngster was calling from inside the nest cavity. I later saw an adult RCWO farther down the trail, roughly .13 miles before the shelter - 26.952035, -80.307331. Once I went through the pics, I saw different band colors on this bird than on the two adults I first saw, so I changed the count to four. Photos and audio added. The audio is of the juvenile.
