Observation details
lifer! so much goofier in person. very clumsy fliers--looking almost like house sparrows trying to be precise but failing. all ranges of clean yellow and striped malar to just dirty brownish gray and ugly. seems early for juveniles so maybe just first year birds? singing up a storm all along the beach and perching out in the open to sing. always at a distance--seem skittish as well. bulky birds -- bigger than I expected. chonkers. yellow dot quite beautiful when in bright plumage. also lovely white malar stripe.
