Observation details
Found by Jo and Adam in the epic clearing. First identified by call note, then seen.Petite, round (compact) empid, deep olive green back, small bill, strong eyering, high-contrast wing panel, yellow underparts, relatively short tail, medium length primary projection, and most importantly a bright yellow throat that does not contrast with the face. A bright yellow belly does NOT mean that an empid is a YBFL. All empids, phoebe, and pewee can have a yellow belly in fresh plumage. Identifying a YBFL must be done with great caution- getting a look at shape/structure, throat, wing panel, etc. is necessary. nice work by Jo and Adam doing exactly that. FOY. The first record in the state this year.
