Observation details
Photos. First noticed the heron on northwest side of reservoir with its back to me. (I was viewing from the south end of the reservoir a long distance away.) Saw Bluish-gray upperparts and head, but noticed pinkish feathers further back on the upperparts. The crown lacked a white median crown stripe, but saw some white at the back of the crown (the nuptial plume). The bird moved out of sight behind a point rather quickly. I immediately headed over to the east side to confirm that it was a Tricolored Heron. Bird was feeding along the west edge, catching fish and crawdads. Had a bluish-gray bib with purple tinge at the lowest part. The rest of the body below the bib and lateral to it was white. Could see yellow at base of bill (part of the bill appeared gray from that distance), long dagger like bill, red eye and white chin and throat. The front of the neck was a patchy white along its length. Legs were greenish yellow.
