Observation details
Fantastic find by Steve Grunwald a few earlier this week, confirmed this morning by Ross Gallardy and Jeff Kenney with vocal recordings and photos. Excellent, long looks at this surprisingly confiding drab, “pot-bellied” catharus thrush. Faint eyering, reddish tones on tail and wings, gray back, spotted chest, comparatively short tail, and small bill with yellow at base. Lacked buffy tones on face of a Swainson’s Thrush and seemed plump, unlike the longer look of GCTHs. Although it did not vocalize, it was in the same area on Mt. Joy trail as the BITH reported this morning, and it appeared to be the same bird.
