Observation details
Sharp, buzzy “zeets” in first half of recording vs “chup” calls of WEMEs. First song at 32 seconds. Clear, musical notes starting high and descending in pitch. Many meadowlarks in immediate vicinity, was unable to get a confirmed visual of the bird. Having worked in the grasslands of west Texas over winter, this became a familiar species and was recognized as such, yet remained somewhat skeptical initially considering location. Followed up with others, who confirmed the ID. Many thanks to Linda Chittum for input and help with resources while “stuck” in the field. Found in grassland-dominant habitat with sparse Greasewood and Sage on the peripheries of patchy PJ forest. More noted to be added when time allows.
