Observation details
A rare bird (for Peel region) that has been spotted daily since previous week. The bird appeared on the northern side of the fence concealed by branches. After 10 minutes it apparently ambushed something in the bushes to come out with a snake. Too far to take good photos but could observe how it held the snake in its grip and attacked it until it stopped shaking. Eventually it began to devour it. Could identify the bird owing to its bold black, white, and gray pattern and hooked bill that are distinctive characteristics of this near-threatened bird. Slightly smaller and with lighter tones than the more common Northern Shrike. Took record photos from a distance.
