Media notes
The "faint fee-bee" given by male when bringing food to a nesting female. In this recording, the male gives two faint fee-bees from a bush next to the nesting box and then can be heard flying to the box and entering. The female then makes the "squawk" call, usually used signal to young that food is here and they should open up. Squawk first heard at 0:18 and again at 0:30 and 0:31. But no begging sounds in response picked up. Mic was positioned on the ground angled up to the box. Observed from a distance long enough to see male arrive and depart.
Observation details
Still struggling to determine if eggs have hatched. I tried with R.'s good mic, placed on the ground and leaned against the shed to point up at the nesting box. A chickadee inside the nesting box repeatedly gave the "squawk" call, "associated with parental provisioning. Apparently produced by parents at the nest, stimulating gaping from the nestlings." But no sound of begging followed.
