Observation details
Incredible find by Michealle Larkins. Definitely a county bird for me and only the second I’ve photographed in Massachusetts. Large imposing nightjar on a branch in an oak. Apparent female (no white observed in tail, which was barred). Otherwise, cryptically colored in browns and buff. Update: Unfortunately, the bird was found dead on the morning of 5/19/24. JRT picked it up and it will go into the collection of Harvard MCZ. It was in an emaciated condition, so evidently it was not feeding.
