Observation details
Heard only. Singing very intermittently at the juncture of a moderate-aged mixed forest stand and a large, approx. 10-year-old regenerating logging patch of dense brush and briars. https://maps.app.goo.gl/5ebZzQVobsuTRK2fA?g_st=ic 34.6100037, -82.8144636 This is about 0.5 miles from the location of the bird heard on 13 May 2024, and although it is impossible to know for sure if it is the same bird, the singing style was remarkably similar--mostly abbreviated verses, a handful at a time, with long periods (15 minutes+) of silence between. Song a choppy "chippy-chuppy-chip..." or components thereof. In the attached recording, the bird sings at 0:02, 0:56, 1:19, 1:32, and 2:14. This species has now been observed within the same 700-foot patch of habitat in spring 2021, 2022 and 2024.
