Observation details
First heard the bird singing in the rain through our back windows, which were open. Sounded like Gray-cheeked/Bickell's. Ran downstairs but discovered that neighbor's air conditioning unit was going--very loudly. Could still faintly hear the bird over the AC unit. It hopped up in the black locust that hangs over our backyard and I saw it clearly. I ran around the house to the back alley and was able to get a faint recording. Looks like gray-cheeked on the sonogram. The bird sings at :24 and :34, after a blue jay.
