Observation details
Was grabbing my bag to pack up when I heard something halfway between a squawk and a grunt. Sounded vaguely heron-like to me, so I took another look out over the river but didn’t see anything. Assuming it was nothing, I resumed packing up. Then suddenly a Caspian Tern was just right there, right in front of me flying south. A second followed a few seconds later. Now I have two Caspian Tern sightings on the Hudson - one a northbound pair in October, and the other a southbound pair in May. Normal.
