Observation details
I watched this pair of Red-breasted Nuthatches excavating a nest cavity for about an hour. They took turns working on the cavity in shifts, and spent about half of that time actually working on the nest. Occasionally when returning to the snag, the male perched on top of the snag and sang for a minute before returning to nest building.
