Observation details
One recording with Merlin and other with iPhone app Voice Memos; Incessant repetition of mono-syllable song biggest clue; No visual because individual was deep in a thicket; Recordings double-checked against audio files on eBird for HUVI because spectrogram different from those on/in Pieplow's Peterson Field Guide to Bird Sounds; However Peterson Guide indicates HUVI sounds have great variability. 5/16/2024 Additional Comments: Initial surprise at upslur pitch of my recordings -- that I inadequately referred to as mono-syllable versus upslurred; Mono-syllable was intended to describe the series (versus pitch) of one note or syllable repeated over and over; Initial surprise because many HUVI spectrograms and descriptions are down-slurrred, two-parted notes or syllables; The eBird species account has a similar recording of repetitive one-note, upslur pitch song (https://ebird.org/checklist/S80223497); Birds of N. America describes vocalizations as ascending, descending, or a combination with much individual and geographic variation; This location is eastern edge of WA range map per birdweb.org and consistent with other reports of HUVI in northwest corner of Klickitat County.
