Observation details
A continuing individual found here earlier in the day by Alexandra Lamb. Looking at Google Maps, our encounter with the bird was roughly in-line latitudinally with the southern Clam Beach parking lot (the one with the boardwalk). We mostly saw this bird on the beach, along the edge of the dune vegetation. It was very slender overall with a long tail, much like a mockingbird. The plumage on the upperparts was generally a pale gray-brown color throughout, and I didn't notice any wingbars or other prominent markings there. The underparts looked to be white with many dark spots heavily streaking the throat, breast, and belly--this was best seen when the bird perched atop driftwood, facing us directly. The irises were orange and the bill was short, dark, and mostly un-curved. Such a character. It would sprint forward, pause, pose, and repeat. Spent a lot of time on the sand, but also stood atop driftwood and other low branches.
