Media notes
Third photo in the series. At this point one female has the other one pinned. The second male has flown to ringside but neither male is joining the fight. Right after this picture was taken, all four birds flew away.
Observation details
Encounters: (1) male flying into tree; (2) female flying into bush; (3) 2 males and 2 females in a confrontation. Detailed description of of the last encounter follows. I began by hearing the chirrrup calls. Found 2 male-female pairs keeping fairly close together. The two pairs joined up in a bush, and the two females flew to the ground and fought there. A male flew to the ground and observed closely, and a second or so later the second male did the same. The males had their crests us but didn't join the physical fight. The four birds then flew away, perhaps because they noticed me watching.
