Observation details
Lifer! Unexpected rarity found by Ian Doherty while searching for the Ruff, and confirmed by Doug Hitchcox. He had just spotted it moments before I arrived, and was in the process of mulling over whether it was a Pectoral Sandpiper or a Ruff. I have no experience with either bird, but the bright orange legs of this bird seemed to set it apart from Pectoral. I deferred to Ian, who deferred to Doug. Seen on the grassy rise just to the left of the run-down bird blind hallway across the marsh. Presumed female bird. Stubby, dark, down-turned bill, clean white underparts. Photos.
