Observation details
Awesome surprise! Female on east slope between the reservoir and Camcrest Place. Observed for several minutes as she perched in shrubs and flew down to feed on the flowering camas. The bird was so cooperative that I even got to show her to three other birders. Tiny hummingbird with relatively short, very thin bill. Whitish throat with intricate speckling and small white line just above gape. Buffy underparts deepest in colour along flanks but no obvious white breast-band unlike Rufous Hummingbird. Greenish crown and upperparts and no rusty marks in tail unlike Rufous and larger Broad-tailed Hummingbirds which otherwise share quite similar plumage details. Wingtips project past tail tip when perched. My species #363 for the Victoria area!
