Observation details
Continuing. A BTGW x YRWA hybrid, showing a small yellow streak on the crown, white eye-arcs below the eyes, and, most surprisingly, singing only a YRWA song! Perhaps the first(?) BTGW hybrid with Myrtle (YRWA) subspecies ... 2 hybrids with Audubon's (YRWA) subspecies exist in eBird. Oscar Johnson wrote me: "BTGW has broader and fewer flank streaks that form two loose lines, rather than the extensive fine streaking on this bird. They also have less streaking on the back (more mottling) and no streaking on the crown. The back color is a truer gray rather than a blue/slate-gray of a Myrtle and this bird. The overall structure is also closer to Myrtle, which is a much larger-bodied warbler with a somewhat larger head, giving it a more front-heavy look."
