Observation details
***Very rare; only six prior records on eBird and none from Wyoming. Foraging methodically in the mid-canopy of a deciduous tree here (42.109649, -104.369900) with a loose flock of SWTH; always 10-20 feet off the ground. Very thin eye arcs hardly visible in the field. Lower eye arc somewhat prominent but still thinner than a pure male MGWA; upper eye arc reduced to a few white flecks. Similar pattern displayed on both sides of the face. Breast pattern better matches MOWA with well-defined splotchy black bib contrasting with paler gray hood. Black connects in lores like MGWA. Irwin et al. (2009) indicate that MGWA and MOWA overlap substantially within the Peace Region of northeastern British Columbia and that the two species "hybridize extensively within that zone."
