Observation details
Great looks at this bird from the deck, beautiful rusty color with long tail. There were two birds here and both the song and calls can be heard: Song: A moderately fast series of slightly nasal and overslurred PIK or WIK notes (10/5s), lasting for 10-15s. Top pitch starts out around 2.5kHz then rises to a slightly unsteady level around 2.7-2.8kHz. Calls: A two-noted call consistent with what Howell and Webb (1995) describe as "a sharp, woodpecker-like chik, typically followed by a gruff snarl, whrrr". Sometimes just the first note is given.
