Observation details
Earlier PEFA flushed the LESA, SPSA, & SOSA at the hotspot Lombard St. stormwater pond (restricted access) and continued to patrol to the west. Roughly an hour later afterwards as I was leaving the stormwater hotspot, this PEFA was seen flying towards one of three tallest buildings. I was not able to get bins quickly enough to observe food in its clutches. It landed on the western edge of the building which is protected to the east side by a wall. From the ledge, the bird walked in towards the wall out of sight. Many times these buildings have accumulated debris or even rocks added to the rooftops. Google images appear to show some possible natural substrate collecting up there, if a rocky gravel layer has not already since been added. I originally recommended this area as a Hotspot a few years ago after observing frequent PEFA and CORA activity in the general area. I believed these man-made structures replicate natural locations enough to support nesting opportunities for either species. I will try to think of ways to get up there for confirmation.
